Nordaq is the proud sponsor of the Taittinger UK Sommelier of the Year Award 2019, the final of which takes place on Monday 8th July 2019. The long-running event will see some of the UK’s top sommeliers put through their paces with assistance from Nordaq filtered water.
Now in its 40th year, the competition was created to recognise ‘the very finest talent in wine service’ and is organised by The Caterer Magazine, in partnership with the Academy of Food and Wine Service.
Widely regarded as the premier accolade in UK wine service, past winners include some of the industry’s leading lights when it comes to wine knowledge, including Gerard Basset, Nicolas Clerc, Ronan Sayburn and Xavier Rousset.
In addition to Nordaq’s sponsorship of the event, all participating sommeliers will be able to drink Nordaq filtered water with the wines they’re tasting throughout the competition.
Peter Smeaton, of Nordaq UK, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Taittinger UK Sommelier of the Year Award 2019. Nordaq is a great match for the award, and our premium filtered water is the perfect accompaniment to fine wine. By having Nordaq water available to them, the contestants will have the best chance of correctly analysing the wine they taste.”
A revelation for wine tasting, Nordaq water enhances the flavour of wine, in a way that no other water comes close. Its palate cleansing qualities arise from a unique water filter system, crafted in Sweden. Designed for a ‘superior taste and a clean planet’, this alternative to bottled water and single-use plastics also enables a business to reduce the logistical demands and carbon footprint of water service.
The competition for the Taittinger UK Sommelier of the Year Award will span from Friday 26th April to the day of the semi-finals and final on Monday 8th July. The final will take place in front of a live audience and will first see a shortlist of 12 candidates whittled down to just 3, after which a winner will be crowned the Taittinger UK Sommelier of the Year 2019.
Three previous winners of the award, Nicolas Clerc, Ronan Sayburn and Xavier Rousset, will be assessing this year’s contestants. The challenges facing participants include blind taste tests, practical service tasks and questionnaires, testing their palates and service skills.
Peter Smeaton continued: “We look forward to the contestants having the opportunity to work using Nordaq water during the competition, and we are sure they are too.
“A good sommelier knows that the water chosen to accompany fine wines is vitally important, almost as important as the choice of wine itself. Bottled waters tend to contain added preservatives which taint both the flavour of the water itself, as well as the palate thereafter.
“This is why so many of the world’s greatest sommeliers prefer to drink Nordaq, above any other water, to cleanse the palate. With Nordaq, they experience the most accurate representation of a wine’s complex flavour.”
Nordaq is now offering the opportunity to sample its water in a tailored ‘Nordaq Experience’. The Experience allows you to try the water alongside your wine, providing invaluable insight into the potential that Nordaq could hold for your business.
